As my week’s author-tour in Ontario continues….
Who knew that the Trent Lakes Public Library in Buckhorn, Ontario used to be a schoolhouse, and one of the librarians, my host Kim Fernandes, is also a children’s author about to go on tour to Japan?! I was impressed! Kim coordinated with Buckhorn Public School secretary Shelly, and board member Peter, to greet and set me up at the school for my presentation to about 38 grade 4-6ers. My student helper was Erica, and Drake won the book. We all had fun!
Then it was on to Rhema Christian School in Peterborough, where Sheila May hosted me super-warmly, Max was my student helper, Victoria officially thanked me, and Johnathan won the book. There were 50 Rhema students in grades 4 to 8, and given that the 4-5th graders had to sit on the floor rather than chairs, they all received autographed bookmarks from me 🙂 Not sure how we managed to fit everyone into the group photo, and wasn’t I surprised that both Max and Johnathan were taller than me!
That was all yesterday. Today in pretty Port Hope I spoke to grades 4 to 6 in two sittings in the gym on thundery day. Denis helped me set up and Kevin introduced me. Matthew helped with the lights and Timis won the book. Second session, Kaitlin introduced me very smoothly, and Emily won the book. No photos were taken. (My own camera stopped working earlier this week.) Now I’m off to Ajax!
