This past Sunday was the first launch of my new young adult novel Stowaway, because it is only just off the press. I held the launch near my summer hideaway on Mayne Island, British Columbia, Canada (which also happens to be the island where the story is set!). Some 36 people showed up, there were not enough chairs for everyone, and I sold off more than the books I had brought; some people had to wait for more books to arrive the following week. It’s so nice to fill a room when you just never know if anyone will show up! And I had such fun presenting this new adventure novel, that I’m keen to do it again. Contact me if you want me to talk about it at your school or library!
P.S. It was especially nice that my son Jeremy was there (visiting from Toronto). As a former tree planter (5 hardworking years up north), he helped me with the tree planting narrative in the novel. He said the reading of that section did not make him nostalgic for his tree planting days.
